School of Hard Knocks

So yesterday I got a phone call from Nurse Jill, the nurse at Avery's school. She said that Avery had had a collision with another little girl in PE class and that Avery had hurt her eye. Nurse Jill said that Avery was fine but warned me that there was some swelling and some bruising. Being the laid back mom that I am, I hardly gave it a second thought. The nurse had said she was fine, after all.

I got my first glimpse of Avery's injury while in the carpool line and she was on the sidewalk. "Oh my! That's much worse that I thought!"

So, it turns out that there was a little more than "some swelling and some bruising." To be fair, these things always get worse before they get better and her teacher said that it had gotten worse throughout the day. But, what a shiner!!!

Now my job is to convince Avery, who has never been a very good patient, that she needs to keep a warm washcloth on her eye for a little while every day. You cannot imagine the drama that that entails....

Ethan's 9 month check up

I took Ethan in for his 9 month check up today. He is, thankfully, perfectly healthy and continues to grow like an absolute weed! He is 30 1/8 inches long (96%) and weighs 19lbs 9oz (45%). Apparently the "long and lean" gene didn't miss Ethan. Gramma Judy is already laughing over the fact that one day, in the not-so-distant future, I will be looking up at my kids when I boss them around. Ha Ha.

Party Animals

This Saturday our kids were invited to not just 1 but 2 birthday parties. The first was for our neighbor Jake who turned 2. His party was at a gymnastics place where the kids had lots of fun climbing and jumping all over. Even Ethan was able to get in on the action a bit. The second party was for our friend Luke who was turning 1. He and Ethan are only 3 months apart and have already become great pals. It all made for a very fun day!
